Mirna Gabriela Vasquez

Mirna was the daughter of Celia Garza and the late Armando Vasquez Coronado. She was a devoted mother to her son, Yves Maximiliano Vasquez, and his wife, Sofia Salazar, and a beloved sister to Armando, Karina, Ana Celia, Karla Maria, Arnoldo, Andrea Lizette, and Eduardo Sebastian. She will also be remembered with love by her many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, friends, and the countless students she guided throughout her career.

Mirna dedicated her life to education and learning. After earning both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Spanish Language from the University of Texas at Brownsville, she pursued doctoral studies at the University of Houston in Hispanic literature and women’s studies. For the past eleven years, she was an AP Spanish Language teacher at North Shore High School, where she also sponsored the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica. Her students and colleagues admired her for her encouragement, wisdom, and unwavering belief in their potential. In 2025, she was serving as President-Elect of the Texas Brazos Chapter, a role that reflected her passion for leadership and community.

Those who knew Mirna will remember her sharp humor, her love for reading and traveling, and her ability to bring light and laughter wherever she went. She was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith and proud of her voice as a feminist, living her values with courage and authenticity.

Mirna touched countless lives with her strength, joy, and generosity of spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and inspiration that will continue to guide her family, friends, and students for years to come.

Visitation will be held at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, located at 4525 Bissonnet St, Bellaire, Texas, 77401, on September 28, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A Vigil Service will take place at the same venue on the same day at 2:30 pm.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, located at 6800 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, Texas, on September 29, 2025, starting at 10:00 am.
