

Sister Olive was born in Morganza, Louisiana to Eddie John and Minnie Moreau Bordelon. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, TX, in August 1967 at Villa de Matel, Houston, TX. She made her Perpetual Profession of Vows on August 15, 1974 at Villa de Matel, Houston.
Sr. Olive earned a Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology from Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, LA. She went on to graduate school earning a Master’s degree in Health Care Administration from Texas Women’s University, Denton, TX.
Beginning in 1970, Sr. Olive ministered as the Director for the Radiologic Technology School at St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles, LA for three years. Then in 1975, she served as the Director for the Radiology Department at St. Bernardine Hospital in San Bernardino, CA. In 1977, she served on the Congregational Renewal Team until 1981, when she was elected to serve on the Congregation’s General Council. From 1982 through 1984, Sister also served as Senior Vice President of Mission Services at SCH Corporate Offices, Houston, TX.
In 1986, Sister Olive was elected to serve a second term as General Councilor. In 1990, after serving two terms on the Congregation’s General Council, she was missioned to St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, LA. While there, Sister served in Administration for five years. Then in 1995, Sister became the hospital’s President/CEO. Her tenure lasted three years as she was once again elected to serve on the Congregation’s Leadership Team. In 1998, Sister served the Congregation as its General Superior for two terms. Then, after a well-deserved sabbatical in 2007, Sister was missioned to the Office of Social Concerns, Villa de Matel, Houston, TX. Thereafter, she volunteered at CHRISTUS St. John’s Hospital in Nassau Bay, TX. After many years of active ministry, Sister dedicated her time to prayer, initially at St. Placidus Convent and then at St. Anne Convent, Houston, Texas.
Sister Olive was preceded in death by her parents Eddie and Minnie Bordelon, four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by a brother Edward Bordelon and his wife Rita; two half brothers Terrell and Sidney Bordelon; step brother Alvin Ard; step sister Carol Fowler; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
We extend a special thanks to all who cared for Sister during her last days. Sister’s body will be received at the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale St., Houston, TX at 5:00 P.M. on June 24, 2013, followed by Evening Praise and a celebration of her life. Mass of Christian burial will be held in the Immaculate Conception Chapel on June 25, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. Rite of Committal will follow at Villa de Matel Cemetery, 6510 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023.
