OBITUARY

Olivia Lan Simmons

December 3, 2013January 6, 2020

Olivia Lan Simmons, 6, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 6, 2020, in the arms of her loving parents. Olivia was born on December 3, 2013 in Houston, TX to James and Grace (Kraay) Simmons. Olivia was artistic, caring, and compassionate. She showed love towards everyone she crossed paths with and to those closest to her heart her remarkable sense of humor came to light. Olivia adored her big brother Benjamin and was a protective and helpful older sister to her younger siblings Pearl and Otis. Olivia loved life to the fullest and this could be seen in how she played with her friends and family. She spent endless hours chasing and wrestling with her brother and sister. Olivia had a beautiful, artistic mind. She loved playing piano as well as drawing and painting. She loved spending time outside, hiking, camping, and tracking raccoon prints to one day find her elusive favorite animal. She spent her last day on Earth running, playing and dancing at the Brazos River County Park alongside her parents and partners in life and play, Benjamin, Pearl, and Otis. There is comfort and peace in knowing Olivia is walking hand-in-hand with Jesus, whom she always reminded people was living in her heart. She will continue to be a beacon of light to all those she left behind and her memory is truly a blessing to all who knew her. Olivia is survived by her parents, James and Grace Simmons, brothers Benjamin and Otis, and sister Pearl of Rosharon, Texas. Olivia is also survived by grandmother Ivalene Simmons of Holdrege, Nebraska, grandparents Glenn and Lan Kraay of Bridgeport, Nebraska, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Douglas Simmons.

One of the first times Olivia was in our campus library, she came up to me and shared: "Jesus lives in my heart." I was momentarily taken aback, but quickly realized that this was a special reminder of how I should face the rest of my day given to me by this special child of God. : ) Be absolutely assured that today, Olivia is basking in the Glory of Our God, Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Olivia would not want any of us to be sad about that. My heart is with you in our worldly loss and I pray for your grace and peace throughout this transitional time for your family. I wish you to know that God has already worked amazing acts and the best is yet to come according to His Word and Promise.

We will always remember sweet Olivia walking and playing outside with her family and friends. Olivia was a very sweet, tender, and friendly child. My children have enjoyed every playful moment they shared together with Olivia, Benjamin, and Pearl. Olivia will be greatly missed. We are deeply saddened by the news of your loss. We hope that our Lord brings you and your family the much needed peace during this sad time. Our condolences to the Simmons family.

I loved seeing Olivia's smile and her determination. It was my privilege to serve in her preschool class at church; her sweet and loving spirit was such a blessing. I also love how she loved her siblings.
James, Grace, Ben, Pearl, & Otis, you will continue in my thoughts and prayers as you face the future without Olivia on this earth. I am so glad we have the assurance that you will one day see her again.

My special memory of Olivia was how beautifully she played the piano at her Winter Concert in December with a lovely bow at the end. Olivia brought joy to the residents of Windsong Nursing Home and everyone in attendance with her love of music.

Olivia was such an independent little lady. It was so cute watching her check out her books in the school library. She very often avoided eye contact with me, but I kept attempting to get her to warm up to me. Not long ago, I was in her classroom and I assisted Mrs. Parada. I was so happy when Olivia let me sit down and help her (really guide her) with the project she was completing. For the first time, I got to hear her voice. She was talking to me! I was so happy and so impressed with her work. She will be missed tremendously at SLE. We are taking good care of Benjamin. What a sweet boy. Lord be with your family as you heal. We are all better for knowing little Miss Olivia. May she rest in Peace in Heaven.

I am blessed to have known Olivia, and she will always hold a special place in my heart. Her smile and laughter was infectious. She was very good at making connections, and it was often that she came right next to me to tell stories about things she had learned or experienced with her family who she adored. Olivia was always ready for a challenge and wanted to make sure her school work was not only correct but also beautiful decorated. She was a leader in that she made sure those classmates around her were kind and following the rules. I remember the day she first went up on our big playground and when she would write a new word on her paper by herself. I remember that proud smile that she displayed so often. I will truly miss her.

I am so saddened by the loss of your sweet Olivia. I will always remember Olivia for having so much spunk and liveliness packed into such a small little person. My son Judah is nearly the same age as Olivia and I can remember them playing together in the church nursery. My heart breaks for you and will continue to pray God's grace and love over you as you walk in these most difficult days. Sending so many prayers and lots of love from Illinois.
