Pamela (Pam), the only child of Reinhold Fensch and Martha Peyton Fensch, was born on August 5, 1943 in Washington, DC. She Graduated from Bellaire High School in 1961. After attending Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, she earned a Bachelors with honors in Political Science from the University of Texas-Austin in 1965 and a Masters from University of Texas at Austin in 1970. She was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society.
She married Charles Holman Young on June 22, 1968 at Bellaire United Methodist Church in Bellaire, TX. Together they lived in New Jersey, before coming back to their hometown of Bellaire.
Pam was preceded in death by her parents and husband Charles, and first cousins Kathy Padgett and Edwin Peyton.
Pam is survived by a large extended family, lovingly known as “Aunt Pam”. Maria Peyton (Condel-deceased) Vaughan and family, Nancy (Wayne) Peyton Bennett and family and Edwin and Peggy Peyton (both deceased) family. Pam and the family wanted to recognize her caregivers for their care, love and support: Cheryl, Kellie and Blessing.
Pam worked as a teacher, first in New Jersey, and then at Lamar High School and Bellaire High School. She was a master teacher of Government and Economics having been nominated for HISD teacher of the year. She retired from HISD in 2003.
Pam was a long-time member of Bellaire United Methodist Church where she served on the Board of Trustees and Chaired the Archives Committee, amongst other activities. Pam was an initial member in the creation of the Houston History Alliance where she led numerous seminars in their annual conferences. She was active in her local P.E.O group, the AAUW (American Association of University Women, The Houston Heritage Society, and Board Member of Amazing Place. After moving to Brazos Tower Brazos Manor in 2023, she jumped in to multiple activities and served as secretary for the Residents Association. Always a social butterfly, she kept up with family and friends via lunch and dinner groups, mah jong, bridge and rummicube as well as two book clubs.
Pam will be remembered as a natural leader, a master teacher, a confidant to friends and family, and one who loved with a heart the size of Texas. She believed in people and their goals, and truly believed “America is the best place to be born and raised.”
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet St., Bellaire, TX. Burial will be held Friday, July 3, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Nathan Lonsdale Bledsoe, officiating, at Bellaire United Methodist Church, 4417 Bellaire Blvd., Bellaire, TX, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
