Born on August 5, 1931, Paul was a proud second-generation Houstonian who treasured living in the Houston area his entire life. He built deep connections in the community, formed lifelong friendships, and always placed family at the center of his life.
Paul attended San Jacinto High School and began his college studies at Texas A&M before being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served honorably in the Korean War. Following his service, he completed his education at the University of Houston, earning a Bachelor of Science in Small Building Management with a minor in Architecture.
On November 17, 1957, Paul married the love of his life, Fredericka “Freddie” Behrend. Together, they celebrated 68 years of marriage, remaining the apple of each other’s eye.
A natural entrepreneur, Paul began his building career working alongside his father and brother. He went on to develop homes, apartments, and commercial projects, but his greatest joy was the Sugar Land home he built and shared with Freddie for more than 42 years.
Paul was an active member of the Sugar Land Rotary and Brotherhood of Emanu El. He loved fishing, traveling, attending Aggie football games and, most of all, spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Esther Croft, and his brother, Sidney Croft. He is survived by his beloved wife, Freddie; his sons Alan (Andrea), Richard (Donna), and Wayne (Michele); grandchildren Kevin Croft, Bryan Croft (Melina), Mitchell Croft, Jennifer Fleming (Jonathan), Michael Croft, and Jason Croft; and great-grandchildren Theo Croft, Zachary Fleming, and Connor Fleming. He is also survived by his sister, Bettye Shuman (Michael); sister-in-law, Lana Croft; and brother-in-law, David Behrend (Linda).
May his memory forever be a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Emanu El Memorial Cemetery.
