He attended West Virginia university before moving to Houston to pursue a career in transportation and logistics. He married Cynthia Allen in 1979 and started a family soon after. Richard worked for most of his life at Maersk and Land Star doing sales and general managing.
He was a golf enthusiast, music lover, involved with the Boy Scouts, and believed in enjoying the present without worrying too much about the future.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Cynthia, his mother and father, William and Geraldine and is survived by his three children, Clinton Allen, Scott Allen and Sarah Allen.
A Memorial Service honoring Richard will be held on Saturday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet Street, Bellaire, TX 77401.
