

Rita Methilda Petgrave, was born March 31, 1929 in New York. She attended Rutgers University where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry in the College of Pharmacy and later attended Columbia University where she earned a Masters degree in Chemistry. In 1964 she married William (Bill) Promecene, also of New York, and the two moved to Houston, Texas as part of the oil boom. They settled in Bellaire, Texas and Rita spent the rest of her life in the Bellaire/Meyerland area. She started a new career as a real estate broker, and later owned and operated her own firm. She and Bill worked hard, made many friends, and raised a loving family of 4 children that has grown to include 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Rita was courageous, adventurous and believed life should be lived to its fullest. She understood that family is more than just relatives, and everyone was always welcome in her home and at her table, where she created delicious gourmet meals. She was a role model and inspiration to her children, grandchildren, and their many friends.
Rita died peacefully at the age of 93 at home surrounded by family on May 27, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents Randolph and Linda Petgrave, her brother Randolph Petgrave, and her husband William H. Promecene. She is survived by her sister Marie Petgrave; her niece Kristina Fager and nephews Jonathon Jameson Petgrave and Randy Petgrave and their families; son Chris Promecene and his wife Melanie Herz-Promecene; daughter Pam Promecene, and her husband Steve Cook; daughter Sharon Trent and her husband Jon Trent; son William R. Promecene and his wife Angela Promecene; her grandchildren, Noah Herz Promecene, Paige Promecene, William Promecene, Ann Marie Trent, Jon Trent, Henry Trent, Charlie Trent, Mia Trent, Gina Cook, Becca Cook, Beth Cook and her husband Eric Wice, their daughter and her great granddaughter, Wallace Wice.
The Promecene family will receive friends at Holy Ghost Church, 6921 Chetwood Dr., Houston, TX 77081, at 4:30 P.M. on Thursday June 2. A funeral mass for Rita Promecene will immediately follow at 5:00 P.M. After the service, all are invited to the Meyerland home of Chris and Melanie Promecene, 5355 Queensloch Dr., to continue the celebration of Rita’s life.
