Robert J. Leonard

Robert graduated from Manhattan College in 1988. He then received a law degree in 1992 from New York Law School where he was a member of Law Review. In 1993, he started his law career at Solomon Brothers. In 1998, he moved to Washington, D.C., and worked for the Securities Exchange Commission before moving to Houston, Texas. Once in Houston, Robert worked for American General Insurance Company before starting a consulting firm, RJL Consulting.

Throughout his life, Robert practiced martial arts including karate, muay thai and kick boxing but found his true passion in yoga in 2012. He became an avid student and proponent of the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli and started his own practice, which he named The Intuitive Body.

As both a student and teacher of yoga, he often traveled throughout the U.S. as well as Italy. Robert was a devoted teacher who was highly respected by his students. For many of his students, he became not only a yoga instructor but a friend, mentor, and life coach.

Robert thoroughly enjoyed living in Texas and he loved showing visitors what was special and unique about Houston and Texas. For his guests, a trip to Houston would not be complete without a meal of Texas barbecue, local seafood, or some Mexican fare. He also took delight in showing and walking the local parks, as well as visiting the small local music venues.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Leonard, and nephew, Justin Gilson. He is survived by his mother, Mary Leonard, and sisters and their families; Linda and Michael Francescone and their children Lauren and James; Lisa Powell and her children Kelly Gilson and Ryan Gilson; Mary Jean and Gary Comeau and their children, Caitlin and Liam.

Robert Leonard was a wonderful, kind, curious, and thoughtful person. He very much enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. His death was a great loss to all who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed.
