Sarah Cripps-Rains, at the age of 75, died in Houston, TX on July 18th, 2022, after suffering a stroke. She was raised with six brothers and sisters in southern Illinois by her mother, Thelma. She met and married her husband RC Rains II (passed 2008) while earning one of her degrees at Southern Illinois University.
She was dedicated to education and teaching, spending more than two decades leading Sutton Elementary as principal, garnering recognition, numerous accolades for the school, and impacting thousands of lives. Even into retirement, you could find her in the library, reading to groups of children.
She is survived by her son, Robert Rains III and his wife Kathryn; her brother James; dozens of cherished nieces, nephews; and beloved Siamese cat, Bob Rains. She was a force to be reckoned with, an incredible mother and principal, and the world is a dimmer place in her absence.
