Sister De Lourdes came with her family to the U.S. when she was almost two years old. They settled in League City and later moved to Galveston, where she attended Crockett Elementary and St. Patrick Schools. Later, Sister worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galveston and then transferred to St. Joseph Infirmary in Houston, Texas, making habits for the hospital Sisters and nurses’ uniforms. During this time, she attended San Jacinto High School and attended evening classes in sewing and English.
Sister De Lourdes entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament, Houston, Texas, on September 24, 1937. She made final Profession of Vows on June 6, 1943.
Early on, she helped the Sisters in the classroom in New Waverly and also helped in Bryan and Port Arthur. She served as a Receptionist at Incarnate Word Academy Convent. Later on, she faithfully ministered as seamstress for the Sisters in our Community for many years. She was a marvelous seamstress. She enjoyed quilting and loved making her specialty, Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls. She also enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, and working outdoors. Sister was very dedicated to her Church and her Community and family. She would often say that life is beautiful, even with the crosses, because it is God’s plan.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents, Boniface and Cesarina Saracco and her two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her sister, Mary Malley; sister-in-law, Rosie Saracco; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
