

Sister Maria Goretti Enright, CCVI, died at St. Anne Convent on February 20, 2026. Sister was born in Lismore, Co. Waterford, Ireland, the daughter of Denis and Bridget Enright. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, Texas in January 1950 at St. Michael Convent, Co. Clare, Ireland. She made her Perpetual Profession of Vows on August 15, 1958.
To prepare for ministry, Sister Maria Goretti attended St. Mary School of Nursing in Galveston, Texas, graduating in 1957 as a Registered Nurse. Thereafter, Sister continued to joyfully serve in many of the Congregation-sponsored hospitals and homes for the elderly, namely: St. Mary Hospital, Port Arthur, TX; St. Joseph Villa, Salt Lake City, UT; St. Placidus Convent, Houston, TX, and St. Patrick Hospital, Lake Charles, LA. Following her retirement from active ministry, Sister Maria Goretti took a well-deserved sabbatical at Ruah Center. Her next ministry was at St. Placidus Convent, where she served as Sacristan for many years. In 2006, Sister Maria Goretti accepted the special role of “Sister Visitor” to St. Placidus and St. Anne Convents. In ministry, her compassionate and caring spirit helped all those she cared for. Sister was known for her great kindness and wonderful sense of humor. She was grateful to God for her call to the religious life, through which she served others with joy, compassion, and dedication.
Sister Maria Goretti is survived by her many nieces and nephews in England and Ireland, in particular, her niece Mary and Mary’s husband James Kelleher, and Julia McGrath of Lismore, Co. Waterford; Kathleen Stapleton, London, UK, and nephews, James and Michael Suther of Leamington Spa, UK.

Sister Maria Goretti’s body will be received at the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX, at 5:00 PM on February 25, 2026, followed by Evening Praise. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at 10:30 AM on February 26, 2026. The Rite of Committal will follow at Villa de Matel Cemetery.
