Sister Marian Grace Thies, C.V.I.

Sister Marian Grace Thies, C.V.I., a devoted member of the Congregation of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament, entered eternal life on June 1, 2026. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she was received into the Congregation on June 6, 1953, and made her perpetual profession of vows on August 15, 1958.

She earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Religious Education degrees from the University of Saint Thomas in Houston, preparing her for a lifetime of dedicated ministry in Catholic education.

For 51 years, Sister Marian Grace served as an Elementary Teacher across Texas—teaching in Houston, Port Arthur, Bryan, Temple, Hitchcock, Conroe, and Baytown. She also ministered as a Theology teacher at Incarnate Word Academy for four years in the mid‑1980s. Her deep love for family was evident in the two years she lovingly devoted to caring for her parents.

She further served the Congregation through Vocation Ministry, accompanying those discerning God’s call with her characteristic gentleness and wisdom.

A gifted musician, Sister Marian Grace enriched school and congregational liturgies and programs with her guitar and thoughtful planning. In retirement, she continued to share her musical gifts by bringing joy, comfort, and companionship to seniors in Houston adult day care centers.

She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her fidelity to the Church, her Congregation, her teaching ministry, and her love of music and sharing it with others. She touched countless lives with her quiet, gentle and steady presence and through sharing her many talents.

Her parents, three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

All services will be at Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023. The wake service will be on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., and the Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. in the Villa de Matel Chapel. The interment will be at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
