

Sister Mary Edwin Berry, CCVI, died at St. Placidus Convent on July 15, 2025. Sister was born in Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland, the daughter of Edward and Annie Berry. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, TX, in April 1951 at St. Michael Convent, Co. Clare, Ireland. She made her Perpetual Profession of Vows on August 15, 1959 at Villa de Matel, Houston.
To prepare for ministry, Sister Edwin earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Sacred Heart Dominican College, Houston, TX. Beginning in 1954, she began a life of service in the business office at St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana, AR. Thereafter, Sister Edwin continued to joyfully serve at: St. Patrick Hospital, Lake Charles, LA; St. Joseph Hospital, Houston, TX; St. Mary Hospital, Long Beach, CA; Schumpert Memorial Hospital, Shreveport, LA; Carrigoran House, Co. Clare, Ireland; St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, Alexandria, LA; SCH Corporate Offices, Houston, TX. In 1981, Sister Edwin was missioned as one of the Founding Sisters to St. John Hospital, Nassau Bay, TX. There she spent the next 25 years ministering as the Business Office Manager, Treasurer, and Patient Representative. In ministry, she was known for her great kindness and her unique sense of humor. In 2007, Sister Edwin retired from active ministry to dedicate her time to prayer at the Marian Convent in Villa de Matel, Houston, TX.
Sister Edwin is survived by her sister, Mrs. Mary Gannon of Coventry, UK; her sisters-in-law, Mrs. Sally Berry and Mrs. Teresa Berry of Co. Mayo, Ireland; and numerous nieces and nephews in Ireland, England, and the United States.

Sister Edwin’s body will be received at the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale St., Houston, Texas, on Thursday, July 24, at 5:00 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will also be held at Villa de Matel Chapel on Friday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m. The Rite of Committal will take place at St. Michael Convent Cemetery, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co. Clare, Ireland in the presence of the Sisters at St. Michael’s Convent and Sister Edwin’s family.
