Sister Mary Patricia Driscoll, CCVI

Sister Mary Patricia Driscoll, CCVI, a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, Texas passed away on Pentecost Sunday, May 24, 2026. May she now enjoy the fullness of eternal life with God forever.

Sister Mary Patricia was born in Clonakilty, County Cork, Ireland, to James and Mary Catherine Twohig Driscoll. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word in September 1968 at St. Michael’s Convent, Co. Clare, Ireland. She made her Perpetual Profession of Vows on June 2, 1979 at Villa de Matel, Houston.

To prepare for ministry, Sister Mary Patricia attended the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas where she was awarded a bachelor of science degree in nursing. She went on to Holy Names University in Oakland, California and received a master of arts degree in culture and spirituality. Sister also attained a master of arts degree in spirituality from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

Beginning in 1977, Sister Mary Patricia ministered as a nurse at the following health care centers: St. Joseph Hospital, Houston, Texas; St. Patrick Hospital, Lake Charles, Louisiana; St. Edward Hospital, Cameron, Texas; COAR, El Salvador and El Hogar de Mi Hermano, Esquipulas, Guatemala. While in Central America, she founded Casa Claudio Maria Dubuis, Esquipulas, Guatemala. Sister also served in the area of Formation and ministered as a novice director and formation director at: Madres de La Caridad del Verbo Encarnado, Guatemala City; Formation House, Convento La Anunciación, Guatemala and Casa Del Verbo Encarnado, Guatemala. Her final ministry in Central America was that of director of COAR, El Salvador. Upon Sister’s return to Houston, she served in ministry in the area of vocations as a vocation team member until she was elected as a General Councilor in 2014. When the Congregation’s Chapter of Elections occurred in 2018, she was elected Assistant Congregational Leader as well as General Councilor.

Sister Mary Patricia is survived by her brothers and their wives: Pat and Norma O’Driscoll, Con and Nuala O’Driscoll, Tony and Ann O’Driscoll, John and Joan O’Driscoll, all of Ireland, Don and Kitty O’Driscoll of England and a sister and her husband: Nora and Gerard Sheehan of Ireland; and nieces and nephews.

Sister Mary Patricia’s body will be received at the Immaculate Conception Chapel, Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas at: 5:00 PM on June 7, 2026, followed by Evening Praise. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at 10:30 AM on June 8, 2026. The Rite of Committal will follow at Villa de Matel Cemetery.
