In 1944, the family moved to Houston, Texas and quickly became Texans through and through. Sue’s siblings were Joyce, Ed and Don. After graduating from Lamar High School in 1950, Sue went on to secretarial school. She and her beloved, John McLeslie Clifford, were soon married and two boys, Mark and Dennis, were born to this happy home.
Sadly, both her husband, John, and their son, Dennis, lost their lives in young adulthood to cancer. Through all life’s trials, Sue maintained grace, dignity, a smile, and always a cheerful disposition. She was a model for all until her last day. If anyone asked how she was doing, her answer each time was, “Hunky-dory!” and she was quick to say, “I love you.”
Sue accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age and exhibited her strong faith in everything she did. She loved her church, West University Baptist, with all her heart and it was there she formed many lasting friendships.
Her son, Mark, lives to honor her memory along with many grandchildren, great-grands, extended family and friends.
When visiting friends left Sue an expected goodbye was, “See you later, Alligator,” to which she quickly responded, “After while, Crocodile,” with the biggest of smiles.
So, “See you later, Alligator,” and we love you too!
