On Saturday, October 7, 2023, Susan Diane Porter, with her family present and holding her hands, left this world to go home and be with the Lord. She is now surrounded with love by members of her family and yours. The glorious reunification with her son, Brandon, and her mother, Lillie Mae Warmke, brought joy to all in Heaven.
Susan was born on January 18, 1957, in Sugar Land, TX to Freddy and Lillie Mae Warmke. She went through the Sugar Land school system where she developed many wonderful, lifelong friendships. She graduated from Dulles High School in 1975 and went on to the University of Houston where she majored in music. At U of H, while speaking with friends in front of Taub Hall in the Quadrangle, she was introduced to her future husband Clay Porter.
After college, Susan and Clay were married in 1978 at Sugar Land Baptist Church. Susan went on to work for Schlumberger and Clay for Dresser Atlas - #1 and #2 competitors in the oilfield wireline service industry.
In 1981 they moved to Susan’s hometown of Sugar Land, and shortly thereafter she began her 38 year career as an administrative assistant for Continental Can/Crown Cork and Seal. During her years at Crown Cork and Seal, she worked with a wonderful group of caring professionals that resulted in many friendships that have remained in place over the last three decades.
Susan and Clay were blessed with the arrival of their first son, Bryan Barclay Porter on December 20, 1983. A few short years later, September 30, 1987, they received the gift of their second son, Brandon Bailey Porter. Both boys were raised in Sugar Land, went to Clements High School and went on to attend and graduate from Houston Christian University – formerly Houston Baptist University.
On January 20, 2018, the Susan and Clay Porter and Janet and Mike Crumby families were joyously united through the marriage of Lauren Crumby and Bryan Porter. With similar interests, Susan and Lauren immediately became the best of friends and their love and respect for each other would grow tremendously as the years passed.
December 26, 2018 and March 1, 2021, brought Kaycee Kristin and Wyatt William into this world and a happiness Susan had not experienced since the birth of her two sons. As the children grew, she shared her lifelong love of creating crafts through as many as mediums as possible with them.
