She was born in Schagticoke, NY on October 16, 1923, and grew up in Hoosick Falls and Green Island, NY. She graduated in 1941 from Heatly High School in Green Island.
Thelma was the beloved wife of Dwight Carleton Brown, with whom she recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Thelma had an insatiable curiosity about life and delighted in new experiences. She loved travel, books, the theatre, and family times surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She blessed all of us with her talented cooking, sewing and knitting. Her spunk and quick wit entertained all those who cared for her, up until the very last day of her life.
Thelma is preceded in death by her oldest son, Kevin Brown.
She is survived by her husband Dwight; son David Brown and wife Barbara Levin of Greensboro, NC; daughter Karen Jeffords-Brown of St. Paul, MN; son Carleton Brown of Texas City, TX; son Winston Brown and wife Sheryl of Racine, WI; daughter Barbara Boucher and husband Marc of Houston, TX; brother Ronald Warren and wife Dot of Green Island, NY; sister Sylvia Blanchard and husband Warren (Benny) of Ballston Spa, NY.
She also leaves eight grandchildren: Matthew Brown, Jessica Tanner, Nate Kaar, Shannon Brown, Warren Brown, Jordan Boucher, Anna Boucher, and Benjamin Boucher; and two great-grandchildren: Aidan Kaar and Wren Tanner.
The family extends deep gratitude to Lillian Flores-Perez, N.P.; Dr. Milton Guerrero; and all the staff of University Place in Houston, TX, for their compassionate care of Thelma during her last 5 years. We owe more to you than we can ever express.
Visitation will be held Saturday October 26, 2013 from 2 to 4 PM at Earthman Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris St, Bellaire, TX, 77401. A memorial service to celebrate her life will follow at 4PM.
