
Viola Spellman Bussey, age 91, passed away December 20, 2016 in Houston, Texas. Viola was born June 24, 1925 in Providence, Rhode Island. She had an illustrious career as a registered nurse, working in Houston at Memorial Hermann, Diagnostic Center Hospital, and for the State of Texas, where she was awarded the Nurse of the Year. She served as a mentor to many nurses and was admired by all who worked with her. She will also be remembered for her quick wit, Yankee ingenuity, needlecraft ability, and her devotion to her family.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Arthur Willis Bussey. She is survived by her son Arthur Byron Bussey and his wife Andrea Colunga Bussey of Port Aransas, and her daughter Deborah Bussey Morice of Houston. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Michael Bussey (wife Restu), Travis Bussey (wife Meg), Claire Morice, and Aaron Colunga; great-granddaughters Lily and Ruby; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Friday, December 23 at 11 AM at The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 9600 South Gessner Drive, Houston, TX 77071.
