Virginia Rose “Sherry” Such, 92 of Houston, Texas, loving wife and mother of six children, passed away on February 27, 2021. She was born on September 9, 1928 in Mt. Healthy, Ohio, one of six children to her parents, Matthew and Elizabeth Listermann. Known as Ginny, she grew up in Mt. Healthy, graduating in 1946 from Mt. Healthy High School. She attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where she was give the nickname of Sherry her freshman year. That year she met William “Bill” Such and they were married in 1948. They traveled throughout the United States, living in a streamline travel trailer for the next 8 years, following Bill’s job of construction on a natural gas pipeline from Texas to Massachusetts. They eventually settled in Houston in 1956, living in the same house for 56 years, where they raised their six children.
Sherry kept active throughout her life: raising her children, keeping up the household, volunteering at her children’s school, playing bridge, quilting with her friends, collecting and restoring antiques, and volunteering at the consignment shop for the Charity Guild of Catholic Women in Houston for many years. She was actively involved in the Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Sherry was an avid traveler with many trips throughout and the U.S. and Europe. Some of her favorite trips were rafting the Grand Canyon, bike riding through the Alps with her sister, and touring the Amalfi Coast. Sherry took great pride in staying active well into her 80’s with daily 3 miles walks of the neighborhood or slightly longer bike rides. She loved to dance, taking ballroom dancing classes into her early 80s with her close friend, Roy Smith.
Sherry is survived by her brother, Lou Listermann; sisters, Betty Courts and Sandy Souder; her six children: Steve (Caroline) Such, Ted (Jackie) Such, Charles Such, Jon (Pam) Such, Brian Such, Sheri (Barry) Willey; thirteen grandchildren: Rachel (Sam) Ferris, Summer (Greg) Uwono, Clayton (Julie) Such, Lisa (Ian) Ansley, Shane Such, Maggie Such, Chris (Dana) Such, Anna Such, Hunter Such, Autumn Gibson, Hannah Willey, Austin Such, and Bryce Willey; seven great grandchildren: Jayana, Ella, Avi, Nora, Aubrey, Reign and Emma; and two great great grandchildren: Braxon and Braven, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by William (Bill) Such, husband of 53 years; parents, Matthew and Elizabeth Listermann; and brothers Donny and Gerry Listermann.
All who knew Sherry has experienced her kindhearted and giving nature. She cared greatly for those close to her, always willing to lend a hand. She will truly be missed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 11am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church 9900 Stella Link Rd. Houston, TX with Father Tom Smithson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church or any organization of your choice.
