

William J. Riley, III, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.N., F.A.C.P. passed away Monday, July 21, 2014. He was a loving husband and father, a caring doctor, a tireless promoter of Catholic vocations through Serra Club International, a cattle rancher, and a mentor, teacher, and educator to all.
Above all, his greatest desire was to bring honor and glory to God.
Dr. Riley was an intellectual giant. He excelled as a student at UC Berkeley, the University of Chicago, and the University of Minnesota. He served as Chief of Neurology at St. Luke's Hospital, as a faculty member at Baylor and the University of Texas. He held several posts in the Harris County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association. He was a founder of the Texas Neurological Society, which is now the largest society for the specialty in the state of Texas.
He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
Riley will continue to be loved by his wife Margit, his former wife Joan M. Weismann Riley, and his children: Sean and Ginny Riley, Kevan and Sarah Riley, Megan and Steve Turner, Janeen and Kevin Carter, Michael and Jeanie Riley, Britta Riley, Shane and Magdalena Riley, Tim and Amy Riley, and his honorary son, Majid Al-Sudairy. Dr. Riley was also blessed with grandchildren Nicholas and Bonnie Riley, Kendall Turner, Zachary Carter, Patrick Riley, and Addison Riley. His first great grandson is on the way.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 25, 2014 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3601 Milam St., Houston, TX 77002.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Clearing (clearingretreat.org), a nonprofit dedicated to restoring troubled marriages and healing families that he founded with his wife Margit.
