A native Houstonian, Bill was born on July 19, 1933 to Louis and Miriam Tarnopol. After graduating from San Jacinto High School, he attended the University of Texas at Austin’s Business School where he was on the Deans List and a member of Phi Sigma Delta fraternity.
In 1960 Bill met the love of his life, Maureen Weiss, and on January 22, 1961 they were married in Galveston, Texas.
Bill owned an insurance agency for many years but then turned his love of photography and developing pictures into a business opening up one of the first 1-hour photo labs in Houston. Later in life he volunteered at Congregation Emanu El Kids Meals and at the JCC for Meals on Wheels.
Bill loved to travel with his wife, children and their spouses, and his grandchildren. He loved taking road trips in the car with the family to explore new places, especially the mountains in Colorado.
He is survived by his wife Maureen, their two children Jerry (Christine) Tarnopol of Houston and Marci (Glenn) Levine of Louisville, Kentucky; and six grandchildren — Brett, Chase and Ember Tarnopol, Jordyn and Daniel Levine, and Trenton Simmons.
Donations can be made MD Anderson Lung Cancer Research, to Congregation Emanu El Kids Meals or to the JCC Meals on Wheels.
A private funeral service was held on Monday, May 31, 2021 at Emanu El Memorial Park
