David proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his discharge he continued serving in the Army Reserves and working Civil Service with the Department of Defense. He was a faithful member and Elder of First Christian Church in Belleville. He received his Associates degree in Aviation Technology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. David was a member of the East Lodge 504, A.F. & A.M., serving as Worshipful Master in 1983. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Masonic Bodies of Belleville, Illinois and the Ainad Shriners of Southern Illinois. He loved spending time with his furry friend and faithful companion, Bella. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He was a loving husband and family man, who will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne E. Atteberry and Elizabeth J. Atteberry-Brown, nee Ritchey; and a brother, Don Atteberry; and a sister, Shirley Foreman.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife Darlene Atteberry, of Belleville, Illinois, his daughters, Angie (John) Prost and Amy (Clayton) Merritt, both of Belleville, Illinois; his grandchildren, Anna, Alex, Cody, Megan, Conner, Ruth, and Bailey; his great grandson, Noah; a sister, Lillian Griffith, of Louisville, Illinois; his brother-in-law, David (Karen) Ball; a sister-in-law, Doris (Jim) McFall; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral: Due to current Covid-19 mitigations, private services are being held with Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois. Interment will follow in Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Illinois.
