

Bugs was born June 30, 1944, in Belleville, IL to Byron and Cornelia (Muelchi) Reaka. They preceded him in death.
Bugs married Beatrice (Peter) Reaka on August 3, 1968, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in O’Fallon, IL. Together they shared 49 wonderful years together. She preceded him in death on January 30, 2018.
He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Dale “Jake” (wife, Ianza) Reaka and Donald Reaka; and his granddaughter, Letha Joy Reaka (daughter of Aaron & Emily).
Bugs is survived by his four sons, Dwayne (Nancy) Reaka of Freeburg, IL, Bryan Reaka of Bowling Green, KY, Aaron (Emily) Reaka of Freeburg, IL, Clifton (Barb) Reaka of Swansea, IL; grandchildren, Katie (Austin) Luberda, Reverend Kyle Reaka, Lily (Dalton) Reaka, Isabella (Peyton) Reaka, Jimmy (Sarah) Davis, and Jessica (A.J.) Tiemann; and great-grandchildren, Brayden Crutchfield, Baylee and Carsen Luberda; one brother, Dean (Joan) Reaka of Troy, MO and sister-in-law, Kay Reaka of Glen Carbon, IL; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bugs was a member of the Local 520 Operating Engineers for many years then later went on to work and retire from Defense Mapping in Arnold, MO in their maintenance department.
Bugs, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, proud veteran, and friend to all who knew him, passed away leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and kindness that will never be forgotten.
Bugs proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Seabee during the Vietnam War, completing two tours of duty over four years of dedicated service. He carried immense pride in his military service and held a deep respect for all who served in the military. It was common for Bugs to stop and thank military men and women for their service, never missing an opportunity to show his appreciation and gratitude.
He was a talented woodworker with skilled hands and a creative eye, spending hours crafting, refinishing furniture, and bringing old pieces back to life. He had a passion for deer hunting and fishing, finding peace and happiness outdoors.
Bugs and his beloved wife shared a special love for antiquing, often spending weekends searching for hidden treasures.
Bugs will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow veterans, and all whose lives were touched by his friendship and compassion. His legacy of service, craftsmanship, and love will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society or to the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 24.
A visitation for Bugs will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026 from 11:00 A.M.- 1:00 P.M. at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.
A funeral service will follow the visitation, at 1:00 P.M. Fr. Jack McEvilly will officiate. Final interment will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville, IL.
