Don was a member of the “Greatest Generation.” He was born in Clarion, PA. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17. He fought during World War II and although he talked very little about it, he was very proud of his service to his country.
After the war Don worked for Consolidated Cigar as a Salesman until his retirement in 1987. Don spent most of his retirement years in Sarasota, FL., before he moved to O’Fallon, Ill., to be closer to his family. He will be truly missed by all who knew him, including his extended family at the Cambridge House of O’Fallon and the O’Fallon YMCA. Don was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan (much to the dismay of his Cubby loving family)!!
Don was preceded in death by his three wives, Marion (Aldridge), Kathryn (Regnery), and Doris (Eifert) Thompson, by his mother and father Freda Mae (Gorsuch) and James Lindsey Thompson, his brother, and two sisters.
Surviving are his stepsons, Joel (JoAnn) Regnery of O’Fallon, Ill., Patrick (Bonnie) Regnery of Warren, OH., Mike (Gail) Regnery of St. Louis, MO., Ron (Sharon) Eifert, Neil (Sharon) Eifert; stepdaughters, Betsy (Bill) Burick of Warren, OH., Karen (Bill) Iwanicki of the Villages, FL.; 15 Grandchildren, and 11 Great-Grandchildren.
Memorials in honor of Don can be made to the O’Fallon YMCA’s Partnership for Youth.
