George Frank Arvans, 92, of Belleville, IL, passed away at home on Saturday, July 24, 2021. He was born on November 2, 1928 in Helper, Utah.
George served the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1954 – 1956. Before joining the Army at the age of 26, he worked driving railroad spikes. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Trine University and worked as such for IDOT for many years before retiring. George was incredibly intelligent; he enjoyed playing chess, watching documentaries, working on tools and tinkering with the latest technology. He liked to keep his hands busy and was always actively learning.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Athan Daniel and Myrtle (nee Fisk) Arvans and his beloved wife of 47 years, Bonnie (nee Ferrell) Arvans.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his grandson, Donovan (fiancé Courtnie) Gray; brother, John Torok; and niece, Bridget “Kelly” Collins. George will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Rites of cremation will take place, followed by a private inurnment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on a later date.
