George Grey

George was born December 27, 1942 in East St. Louis, IL to Archie Dixon and Helen Kathryn (McDermott) Grey. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Billie Grey and infant sister, Virginia Grey.

George married Patricia Botwright on June 1, 1963 in Belleville, IL. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage. Patricia survives and resides in Belleville.

Also surviving are their children, Michael (Gail “Candy”) Grey of Fairview Heights, IL and Kimberly Adams of Belleville; grandchildren, Tiffany (Collin Wallin) Grey, Brittany (Ted) Knobloch, Rachel Adams, Sara (Logan Bray) Adams; great-grandchildren, Dallis Adams, Xander Adams, Haven Adams and Ruthie Knobloch; his brother, Clarence “Jerry” (Laura) Grey; and many loving nieces and nephews.

George and Patricia were longtime members of Eastview Baptist Church in Belleville. George was a born-again, baptized Christian who loved the Lord. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, shaping the man he was and the man he will be remembered as forever.

He was a devoted husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, grandpa, uncle, family member and true friend to so many. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

George was a 1961 graduate of East St. Louis High School. He worked as a chemical lab technician for 38 years, beginning with C.K. Williams, then Pfizer, Harcros, and lastly, Elementis before his retirement.

George enjoyed fishing, golfing, horseshoes, bowling, watching Westerns, sports and having get togethers with friends, playing guitar where George would sing along and enjoy their time and beautiful music together. Upon retirement, he loved working on watches.

He was a member of multiple organizations throughout the area, including the Moose Lodge, O’Fallon Sportsman’s Club, Mended Hearts and Anglers.

A visitation for George will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2026 from 4:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

A funeral service will be held the following day, Friday, November 6, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home, with a visitation an hour prior to the funeral. Pastor Michael Friesz will officiate. Final interment will be at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
