

He was a professional musician and loved Jazz music. James was a life member of the Musician’s Union of St. Louis, MO, and VFW Post 1739 of Belleville, IL. He was a master bread maker and volunteered to teach classes at SWIC on bread making. James and Audrey owned The Colonial Dining Room in O’Fallon and Duncan’s Tavern in Belleville. He loved cooking and spending time in the kitchen.
James was preceded in death by his parents, John & Amelia, nee Pogue, Duncan; his loving wife of 67 years, Audrey Duncan, nee Hensien; son, James Duncan, Jr.; daughter, Jeanne Wheeler; brother, Robert B. Duncan; sister, Betty J. Reeves; granddaughter, Amanda Vidovic, and a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Duncan.
He is survived by his sons, Robert (Barbara) Duncan of Belleville, IL; Joe Duncan of Swansea, IL; grandchildren, Julie Samples, Cathy Jenkins, Maribeth Duncan, Amy Johnston, Jeff Duncan, Rhonda Bailey, Joshua Duncan, Allison Richard, Shannon Garrity, Gary Houser, Scott Houser, Lori Shapiro; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials in James’s memory may be made to St. Paul’s Nursing Home or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
