

James was born February 15, 1985 in Mableton, GA to Lexley F. and Vicki D. (Clark) Portwood. They preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James C. Clark and paternal grandparents, Lewis F. and Sarah W. Portwood.
James is survived by his loving siblings, Kelli (Jonathan) Hurn of Collinsville and Clinton “Allen”’ (Michelle) Portwood of Okinawa, Japan; nieces and nephew, Eliza, Aayla, Luke and Elora; maternal grandmother, Frances Wallace of Marietta, GA and his aunt and uncle, Jim and Renee Clark of Georgia.
James worked for many years at Bargain Hunt in LaGrange, Georgia before moving to Illinois, where he more recently worked for Schnucks in Swansea. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed the simple pleasure of cooking.
He was a talented musician and always enjoyed playing the saxophone, as well as learning how to play new instruments like the flute and clarinet.
James will be remembered for the time he spent doing the things he enjoyed and making memories with his family. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family has entrusted Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home in Belleville with cremation services.
