Joe was born June 11, 1948 in East St. Louis, IL to Walter Joseph Sr. and Lucille E. (Smith) Janik. They preceded him in death, along with his grandson, Brandt Ballenger; sister, Constance Gregory; and sister-in-law, Myra Janik.
Joe is survived by his wife, Susan (Wuest) Janik of Swansea, IL, whom he married on February 14, 1989 in Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by his children, Jeffrey (Robin) Ballenger and Tammie Ballenger, all of Swansea, IL; brother, Kevin Janik of Knoxville, TN; and nieces, Teresa Roberts, Andrea (Dan) Bingheim and Eric Janik.
Joe proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant.
For many years, Joe dedicated himself to his career at Prairie Farms Dairy, where he worked in a variety of departments. No matter the role, he brought a steady presence and a strong work ethic, earning the respect of those around him.
Outside of work, Joe found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time fishing. He could often be found playing pool, sharing laughs and friendly competition, or out on the golf course, taking in the fresh air and the challenge of the game.
Joe was a simple man at heart. He didn’t need much to be content—just time spent doing what he loved and being around those who mattered most. His quiet nature, steady spirit, and genuine appreciation for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
