John Joseph Baer "Jay", 32, of Swansea, Illinois, born November 19, 1977 in St. Louis, MO., died on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, MO. Jay fought a 4 ½ year battle with cancer. He was a great lover of music and traveling, he traveled through Mexico, Ireland, England and Florida, He especially loved Disney World. Jay is survived by his wife Jill ,nee Hettenhausen Baer, Parents, John and Deborah, nee Felkel Baer, Brothers, Michael Baer and Lucas Bear, Grand Mother, Jacqueline Felkel, Father and Mother in Law Bill and Maureen Hettenhausen, Sisters in Law Kris DeBourge, Maura (Kirk) Brueggeman and Lauren Hettenhausen, Nieces and Nephews, Alyssa and Alex DeBourge, Max, Kira and Reese Brueggeman, also, survived by numerous , aunts, uncles, cousins countless friends and supporters. Memorials in Jay’s honor may be made to the Colon Cancer Alliance, 1200 G Street, NW., Suite 800, Washington, DC 20005., On line condolence may be made to the family at www.Valhallagardnesandfuneralhome.com . Visitation: Family and Friends may call upon the family from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois., A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2010 from St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, Illinois at 10:00 AM with MSGR. I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the entire Baer family. I knew Jay when he was a high school student at Bishop DuBourg High School. I was the class coordinator for Jay's graduating class. Jay was such a fine young man. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time.

I had the privilege of getting to know Jay through my brother, who went to SIUE with him. It was very easy to immediatley consider him a friend. Jay was a great person and an inspiration to us all. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

My wife and I went to school with Jay at SIUE. Jay was the nicest guy you would ever meet. He would have given you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Jay was an inspiration to so many people. We will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I attended Bishop DuBourg with Jay. I remember him being a mature and very friendly person. I was saddened to learn of his battle with cancer. My prayers are with Jay and family.
