John "Harry" Zimmerman

Harry was born on September 15, 1959 in St. Louis, MO, to John “Jack” Albert and Carol Lee (Dienel) Zimmerman. Harry joined the US Navy in 1979 and was honorably discharged in 1985. He then married Jerri K. Frick on August 9, 1985 in Fairview Heights, Illinois. She survives and resides in Fairview Heights, IL.

Harry is also survived by his daughter, Ashley and husband Joshua McCarthy of Swansea, IL; two granddaughters, Cheyenne McCarthy and Rachel McCarthy; two brothers, Timothy Zimmerman of Fairview Heights, IL and Ted and wife Penny Zimmerman of Troy, IL; nephews, Ryan and Alex and niece, Alyssa; and close friends, Kieth Townsend, Scotty Greenwald, Frank Moore, Jeff Dunahee, Scott Thompson, Jim Nickerson, Frank Menn, Mark Kupsky and Steve Atkinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents John “Jack” Albert and Carol Zimmerman.

Harry retired as an HVAC technician for the state of Illinois for the 126 Refueling Wing. He was very active in his community, being on a planning committee for 12 years, volunteered to help with the homecomings, volunteered on the Fairview Heights fire department, and served 10 years as a Fairview Heights alderman.

Harry loved his family and friends dearly and cherished the time spent together. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services will be held at a later date. The family has entrusted Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home in Belleville, IL with arrangements. Final burial will be at Valhalla Gardens of Memory In Belleville, IL.
