Although living with mental illness most of her life, she was a firm believer that mental illness was not a road block but merely a stepping stone of life. Joyce served as a spokesperson for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) of St. Louis for many years. She was an avid animal lover, especially cats. She was very family oriented and loved children. She always enjoyed checking on and spending time with her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Norma, nee Bourisaw, Lands; her brother, Richard Lands; and her sister, Linda Greive.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her loving sister, Brenda (Dan) Penzel, of Maryville, Illinois; her nieces and nephews, Christina (Frank) Ortwerth, Jason Greive, Matthew Lands, Amanda (Sarah) Lands-Ramrup, Dawn Lincoln, John Lincoln, Robert (Jonella) Lincoln, and Rachel (Joe) Phipps; her great nephews, Liam, John, Harrison, and Gabriel; her great aunt, Betty Murphy; her sister-in-law, Deborah Lands; and many other relatives and friends.
