OBITUARY

Judith Ann Beussink

September 12, 1957May 15, 2018

Judith Ann Beussink, nee Phillips, was born September 12, 1957, in Belleville, IL. After a three year battle with cancer, she passed away on May 15, 2018 at her residence in Millstadt, IL. Judy was dedicated and committed to the Department of Defense, working 34 years to include positions in the US Army, US Air Force, and US Transportation Command. Her last assignment, with the US Army Strategic Deployment and Distribution Command, was especially demanding but very fulfilling. She wanted to thank her husband for scheduling and participating in many of the children’s activities. When possible she arranged weekend excursions for her family to hike, and visit local museums and festivals. In 2016, she and her family were able to take a vacation to Newport Beach. She treasured the time spent with her husband and sons. She was very proud of her children, Brett, and Joe, in their accomplishments. Brett excelled in music. He participated in many musical activities, marching band, symphonic, jazz, but most memorable as a member of a ska-punk band. He graduated from college, moved to Chicago, found a job and is living independently. She wanted to tell Brett to keep on whistling. Joe is the business mogul in the family and has completed his freshman year in college. He has already started a couple of businesses. His grades qualified him for a scholarship both semesters. He loves to travel and is looking forward to studying abroad. Judy wanted to encourage Joe to keep the ideas coming. She recently started Ukulele lessons and wanted to thank her friend and neighbor, Seth, for his patient and encouraging instruction, and his wife, Jenny, for her frequent goodies. In the community, she served for a short time on the Scott Credit Union Board of Directors, was a member of the Civic Club and Sister Cities, and supported many fundraisers for her sons’ activities when they were younger. She was preceded in death by her Father, Robert Phillips, Father-in-law, Ernest Beussink, Mother-in-law, Irene Beussink, Brother-in-Law, Kenneth Beussink, and many beloved Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Surviving are her devoted spouse, Edwin Beussink, her two loving sons, Brett and Joseph, her mother, Geraldine Phillips nee Morrison, two sisters, Beverly Meister (Steve), and Cynthia Hettenhausen (Jeff), a brother Lawrence Phillips (Kathy), Brothers-in-Law Donald (Sheila, Duane (Kari), and Glen (Paulette) Beussink, and Sisters-in-Law, Donna Beussink and Elaine Webb (David), and many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and other extended Family and Friends. Memorials can be made to the Harmony West End Neighborhood Summer Camp or the East Belleville YMCA LiveSTRONG Program for cancer survivors. A memorial service will be held at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Friends may gather with the family from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Ed, Brett, Joe & family,
Judy was a dear friend and colleague. We worked together on many fund raisers and other activities when our boys were in school and band together. We also had the pleasure of working with Judy for many years at the base. She was a very special lady and will be missed. Take comfort in the many memories that you have and let them help with your healing. Our deepest sympathies are with you.

Ed, our prayers are with you and the boys. Judy was my friend for many years and I'm so saddened that we did not get to enjoy our retirement together. I'll always treasure the times we had in Biloxi at training, our trip to Bonita Springs, Florida and many lunches over the years. She was always there during our hard times, visiting at the hospital and even helping us when we moved. She was a true friend, I will miss her greatly.
