LaWanda H. Moore

LaWanda was born August 3, 1935 in East Carondelet, IL to Ross and Henrietta (Eckles) Dixon.

She married Gary Howard Sr. in 1953; he preceded her in death in April 1972. She then married Mervin Moore; he preceded her in death in January 2008.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Hill and one sister, Rotha Bennett.

LaWanda is survived by her two sons, Gary Howard Jr. (wife, Deborah) of Fairfield, OH and Greg Howard of Nashville, IL; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Linda Brown (husband, Sam) of Mitchell, IL, Ronnie Dixon in Waterloo, IL and Sonny Dixon of Columbia, IL; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

LaWanda worked as a store manager for Glik’s in Cahokia for many years. Years ago, she was a Mary Kay consultant. In more recent years, she loved to crochet, knit and garden. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was a longtime and devoted member of the Nazarene Church in East St. Louis and Belleville, as well as Parkview Church of the Nazarene in Fairview Heights.

A funeral service for LaWanda will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

A visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral, from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
