Marvin "Sam" Charles Schwartz

Marvin Charles "Sam" Schwartz, 88, of Millstadt, Illinois, born December 26, 1929 in East St. Louis, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at home surrounded by family.
Marvin proudly served his country in the United States Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Brush and the U.S.S Krishna during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Millstadt VFW Post 7980 and was past Commander of the Millstadt American Legion Post 502.
He was the owner/operator of MC Schwartz Propane and MC Schwartz Inc. Fertilizer. He worked as a sheet metal fabricator and was the owner operator of the family business Lehman Sheet Metal in East St. Louis and later owned Western Blowpipe and Sheet Metal in St Louis. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Millstadt, Illinois, where he also helped to construct the new church building. He was a member of the Ainad Shriner’s of Southern Illinois and Emeth Lodge 1030. He enjoyed many types of music and especially loved to dance the Polka. He loved to laugh and tell jokes and passed his love of cooking on to his children. He enjoyed teaching and molding the work ethic of his children and grandchildren. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Malburn and Margaret, nee Lehman, Schwartz; his son, Marvin Charles Schwartz, Jr., in infancy; and his brother, Malburn Schwartz.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his children, Daniel M. (Judy) Schwartz, Diana K. Schwartz, Brenda L. (Leo “Bud”) Hoock, Malburn C. Schwartz, Brian S. (Jennifer) Schwartz, and Joshua M. Schwartz; his grandchildren, Ryan Schwartz, Danielle Schwartz, Ethan Schwartz, Seth Schwartz, Jacob (Kellie) Hoock, Jessica Hoock, Samantha Hoock, Trey Schwartz, Leigha Schwartz, and Wendy Schwartz; his four great grandchildren, Nathan, Jack, Austin, and Colt; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral: A Memorial will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, November 11, 2018 at the Millstadt VFW Post 7980 at 200 Veterans Dr., Millstadt, IL 62260. The VFW and American Legion Ritual will be held at 1:30 p.m.
