

She was the second of three children born to Harold E. Bookhout and Shirley La Don Bookhout (nee Featherling) in Salem, Illinois, both of whom preceded her in death, and one daughter, Heather Soldner, who preceded her in death.
Growing up in Salem she was a member of Young's Chapel Christian Church. She continued in her faith in Jesus Christ by attending the First Christian Church in Belleville, IL for many years.
After moving to Belleville, she met and married the love of her life, her husband, John. They enjoyed 36 years together with their blended family always enjoying family get-togethers, Christmases, and birthday celebrations; Christmas being her favorite. She and her husband enjoyed Gatlinburg, TN and Branson, MO several times during their marriage.
She was a giving, generous, and loving individual who wore her heart on her sleeve.
After working for several years as a checker at Sav-a-Lot in Belleville, she retired in 2014 which allowed her more time with her family and friends.
She leaves behind her husband, John Schuhardt of Shiloh, IL; daughter, Jill Chambers of St. Louis, MO; son, John M. Schuhardt and his wife Victoria of Belleville, IL; brother, Jack Bookhout and wife Sandy of Nokomis, FL; sister, Leigh Ann Bookhout-Kohne and husband John of Las Vegas, NV; step-daughter, Tina Kennedy and husband James of Georgetown, TX; step-son, John W. Schuhardt and wife Alisha of Belleville, IL; grandchildren, Taylor Chambers, Lexis, Serenity, and Divinity Schuhardt; step-grandchildren, Charles Ratliff, Sean, and Megan Kennedy, Xavier, and Anna Schuhardt; nephews, Christopher Bookhout and Kyle Bookhout; and cousins, Susan Bacon, Jenny Carlson, James Raver, Laura Westegaard, Paul Bookhout, and Jill Bookhout.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the American Cancer Society, or HSHS Hospice.
