

Robert was born November 8, 1937 in St. Louis, MO to James P. and Audrey I. (Hensien) Duncan.
He married Barbara Woods on February, 1962, in Belleville, IL. She survives and resides in Belleville, IL.
He is also survived by his children, Julie Samples (Ted) of Swansea, IL, Cathy Jenkins (John) of Alamogordo, NM, Amy Johnston (Raymond Manwarren) of Belleville, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer Venable (Dustin Mattern) of Breese, IL, Jessica Ellis (Justin) of Alamogordo, NM, Zachary Samples (Alisha) of Moberly Missouri, Lance Johnston II of Portland OR and Nate Johnston of Seattle, WA; and great-grandchildren, Logan, Xander, Saige, Athena, Ryder, and Brock.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, James & Audrey Duncan; his daughter, Maribeth Duncan; brothers, Jimmy & Joe Duncan; and sister Jeanne Wheeler.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He devoted 38 years to Alton and Southern Railroad as a switchman, retiring in 2000.
Robert enjoyed fishing and playing golf when he was healthier. In his later years he enjoyed watching golf and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball on TV and feeding and watching his backyard hummingbirds.
Robert spent many years making beautiful stained glass windows; pieces of beautiful art that will be cherished for the generations to come.
Robert volunteered much of his time and service to many, including the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary & the Community Interfaith Food Pantry.
The family has entrusted Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home in Belleville, IL with arrangements. In accordance with his wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held.
The decision to donate his body to science is honored, a testament to his unwavering commitment to learning and helping others.
