

Robert was born October 21, 1932, in Belleville, IL to William and Josephine (Sebol) Popp. They preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his siblings, William “Red” Popp, Josephine (Walt) Whitaker, Richard (Jean) Popp, and Harry (Ida) Popp.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Betty (Hopfinger) Popp, whom he married in 1953 in Belleville, IL. She survives and resides in Belleville, IL. Together, they shared 72 years of marriage. Also surviving are their two children, Gary (Mary) Popp of Millstadt, IL and Nancy (Jerry) Davee of Belleville, IL; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Darren) Vines, Melissa (Jeremie) Veto, Kelly (Craig) Archer, Nicole Davee, and Ryan Davee; and six great-grandchildren, Carlie, Sydnee, Chase, Nolan, Blaine and Bryson.
Robert was a hardworking man who spent his life in construction, helping countless families build the homes where their memories were made. He worked for Wild & Sons Concrete Company for 27 devoted years. He took great pride in his work and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Outside of work, Robert found great joy in spending time at his clubhouse in Carlyle, IL, fishing, and doing yardwork. He was known for his strong work ethic, kind heart, and willingness to show up for people.
Above all else, Robert deeply loved his wife, Betty, and cherished his family. His devotion to them was evident in everything he did. He will be remembered for his generosity, his dedication, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life.
A visitation for Robert will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 10:00 A.M.- 12:00 P.M. at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home in Belleville, IL.
A funeral service will follow at 12:00 P.M.at the funeral home. Final interment will be held at Valhalla Gardens of Memory Mausoleum.
In keeping with Robert’s easygoing spirit, the family asks that guests dress casually and come “just as you are”, and, if possible, wear plaid in his honor — something Robert would have truly loved.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Family Hospice, as thank you for the time, care and compassion they showed to the Popp family in recent months.
