Ronald served in the US Army Airborne division from 1957 – 1959 and was the Chief of police of Fayetteville in the late 60’s/early 70’s. He owned a tavern and filling station when he met his wife Betty, whom he married on April 15, 1967. He was a railroad machinist for 30 years before he retired. He was a skilled mechanic who enjoyed doing vehicle maintenance and repairs to help out his loved ones. He was an avid race car fan and also enjoyed camping, fishing and cruises with his wife. Ronald was a hardworking and loving patriarch who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Deloris (nee Lanxon) Simmonds and brother, Norman Simmonds.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 55 years, Betty Louise (nee Schilling) Simmonds; children, Ronald Simmonds (Carla) Jr. and Randy (Michelle) Simmonds; step-children, Kathleen Weichert and William Weichert; sister, Betty McAdoo; six grandchildren, plus countless friends and extended family.
Per Ronald’s wishes, no services will be scheduled. He will be accorded rites of cremation, then a private inurnment will take place at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to VITAS Healthcare in Fairview Heights, IL.
