Roy William Foster

Roy William Foster, 92, of Belleville, Illinois, born January 27, 1921 in Lebanon, IL passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013 in Swansea, IL. Roy was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother who loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, gardening, and dogs. He was a member of the VFW and served in WWII for the US Navy. Roy loved baseball and was an accomplished ball player. He was recruited during WWII by the navy to play ball and had the privilege of playing with another well-known veteran, Stan Musial. In his retirement, he enjoyed taking the motor home on camping trips with his wife and Table Rock Lake was a favorite destination. Roy loved his grandkids dearly. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Olin J. Foster and Stella Jane (nee Gerloch) Foster; his wife, Melba (nee Cook) Foster; a son-in-law, Jim Pinion; and a brother-in-law, Bill Goodwin. Surviving are his children; Peggy (Don) Murphy, Betty (Alan) Friedman, and Nancy Pinion; grandchildren, Kara Murphy (Ben Jones), Katie Jarvis, Trevor Friedman, Rachel Friedman (Casey Tinius), Luke Pinion, and Becky Pinion; and a great grandchild, Carter J. Jarvis; and a sister, Dorothy Goodwin. Memorials in Roy’s honor are appreciated to the Belleville Area Humane Society and Mother’s Day Out at St. Paul UCC. Expressions of condolence may be offered at Visitation: Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, Illinois Funeral: Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment at Valhalla Gardens of Memory.

Nancy,Peggy,& Betty. I am so sorry to hear about your dad. Your dad was a great man and I have fond memories of him when I was growing up and going fishing & hunting with him and my dad. He was a good friend to my dad and I know they both enjoyed fishing & hunting together. My prayers are with you all.

We were Very Blessed to have your Dad as our Favorite Uncle. We have Many.... Wonderful Memories of Hunting, Fishing and Camping with all of you. Roy was definitely a Man's Man. My Brother Michael and I were fortunate a couple of years ago to sit down with Roy and really listen to the War stories he endured while station at Pearle Harbor, Your Dad was as Tough as they get!
