

Sandy was born July 27, 1946, in East St. Louis, IL to Joseph and Evelyn (Onasch) Cahoon. She married Richard Girard Sr on March 19, 1965; he preceded her in death on April 23, 2019.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Gus “Ray” Cahoon, Ruth Sumnler, Robert Cahoon, Dicy Rosetta Korves, Jerry Cahoon, Marlin Cahoon, Evelyn Marie Carle, Gracy Combs and Carlile Cahoon.
Sandy is survived by her two children Victoria (Montgomery) Douglas of Belleville, IL and Richard (Jami) Girard Jr. of Shiloh, IL; two grandsons, Brendan and Cameron; siblings, Roger (Henny) Cahoon of Perryville, MO and Clifford (Karen) Cahoon of Murphysboro, IL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sandy worked at Pontiac-William Holliday School, Millstadt Grace School and St. Elizabeth Hospital for many years, helping in the kitchen and serving many delicious meals over the years.
Sandy was a talented quilter and cake decorator. She and Richard enjoyed taking Sunday drives. They loved a good flea market or a trip together to the casino. She was a huge Elvis fan and always kept up with several area Elvis impersonators.
Sandy will truly be missed and remembered by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home, Belleville, IL. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, from 9:00 A.M.- 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Final interment will follow, alongside her husband Richard, at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
