Stanley Chester Elliott, Jr., 83, our loving Dad, Papa, brother, and uncle, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 14, 2020. He was born in St. Louis, MO, on February 27, 1937, the son of the late Stanley Chester and Lois Elaine (Washburn) Elliott. He started his career with the Wabash Railroad. During that time, he was drafted by the U.S. Army in July 1961 and after being honorably discharged in July 1963, he returned to the Wabash Railroad. In 1964 the Wabash merged with Norfolk & Western where he continued his railroad career until 1984, having relocated from St. Louis to Roanoke. VA, in 1966. After leaving the railroad, he decided to enter the ministry, getting his degree from Moody Bible College. He was a pastor for the Church of God, in Shawsville, VA. and spent time touring around the country with a gospel group. With the passing of his wife and his children grown, he moved to Jacksonville, FL, before finally heading out to O’Fallon, IL. He loved sports in general, having played baseball and basketball as a youth through high school, with his passion being baseball. He was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed attending games when he could. He loved to fish, especially with his grandchildren. He spent his life trying to get his children or grandchildren to get him a boat. He is survived by a son, Stanley Chester Elliott III of Blacksburg, VA; three daughters, Barbara S. Elliott, of O’Fallon, IL, Karen M. Donovan and her husband, Mike, of Waynesboro, VA, Sharon K. Proffitt and her husband Wayne, of Christiansburg, VA; sister, Carol McLean of Waterloo, IL.; three granddaughters, Jessica L. Elliott of O’Fallon, IL, Sarah M. Romano and her husband, Luigi, of Bethel, CT and Jaina R. Proffitt of Christiansburg, VA; one grandson, Michael Donovan of Elkton, VA; two nephews, Timothy Mclean and his wife, Dawn, of Waterloo, IL and Scott McLean of Waterloo, IL. Our sincerest sympathy to Barb, Carol and family. We are so happy we got to hear Stan preach just a few months ago. Stan would light up in any room at Bethany that he walked into; we will miss him, but rejoice that he will no longer be in pain. You all have been in our thoughts and prayers.

Much love and blessings,
Quinton & Michelle Clark

You made a lasting impression everywhere you went. I have so many happy memories of you. You were everything a papa should be and more. I am so lucky to have had you marry Luigi and me. I will cherish that forever. I'm glad he got to know you as well. I love you forever and always Papa. Until we meet again.

Sooo sorry for your loss Barb, Carol, and family. I’ll miss Stan’s bear hugs during fellowship at church. He was quick with a smile and a laugh. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a man of great faith, sharing his testimony every chance he got. Praying you find comfort in family, friends, and the knowledge that we’ll see him again one day.
