William Edwin Lowe

William Edwin “Bill” Lowe, 83, of Belleville, IL born August 27, 1934, to Albert and Emma, nee Rule, Lowe, passed away April 24, 2018. William was a blacksmith for the Terminal Railroad and ran his own blacksmith shop for over 30 years. He never knew a stranger, always had a twinkle in his eye and had an infectious laugh. Bill was an avid dancer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and he took his kids and went with friends as often as he could. There were many hunting and fishing stories told at family gatherings and the tradition will continue. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley E., nee Lance, Lowe, son William “Billy” Lowe, daughter Pamela Ann Lowe, parents Albert and Emma, nee Rule, Lowe, a brother in infancy, Albert Lowe, Jr. brother and sister in law, Delmar and Doris Lowe and step-son, Steve Hervey. William is survived by his wife, Anita Mae, nee Cox, Lowe, of Belleville, IL, daughters, Rebecca Barbee of Collinsville, IL, Julie (Robert, Sr) Baker of Belleville, IL, and Barbara (Mark Wottowa) Dixon of Millstadt, IL; step-daughters Marsha (Earl) Alhardt and Mona (Dave) Smith, all of Collinsville, IL; grandchildren, Stephanie (Keith) VanNess, of Breese, IL, Thomas Barbee, of St. Louis, MO and William R. Dixon; of O’Fallon, IL; great grandchildren Madison and Mallory VanNess and nieces and nephews, sister in-law and brother in-law. William also leaves behind his extended family of many close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Family Hospice in William’s name. The family extends an appreciative thank you to Family Hospice as well as the staff and Freeburg Care Center for all their love, kindness and support. Friends may gather with the family Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 1 until 2 pm at Valhalla Gaerdner Holten Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow at 2.

well, here we are. i never thought this day would come.. the best buddy i ever had.. you were the best !! i will miss all your stories and talking about animals and life from long ago.. a part of me is missing and i am miserable. i know you are finally pain free and walking the streets of gold.. i hope you had a wonderful home coming and everyone was there to greet you..our time together went way to fast. i want to thank you for always being there and taking wonderful care of your family. thank you dad for spending your saturdays building rabbit hutches or dog houses and chicken pens :) and thank you for all the wonderful hilarious stories you would tell... there is never a goodbye just a see you later. i love you dad.
