On Jan. 7, 2012, 4 lb 13 oz Avery Ann Macaluso came into the world with an agenda of her own. Her parents Dave and Nicole received agonizing news months prior to her birth that she has Trisomy 18; a chromosomal abnormality where very few babies make it through the pregnancy and less than 10% of those survive their first year of life. There is no cure and these children will have problems throughout their entire life. It is a diagnosis termed "incompatible with life"; however this little angel has proven again and again that she is very much full of life. She is a living miracle and those of us lucky enough to know her and her family have been inspired by the love surrounding her and by the joy that she radiates. We have laughed, cried and loved Avery and her parents throughout her journey and have been able to follow along through the updates on caringbridge.org from Nicole. Her story moves us. Avery touches us with her gentle coos, joyful smiles and her ability to remarkably beat the odds as her parents inspire us with their character, bravery and refusal to let Avery’s diagnosis steal away the joy and life they get to share with her during each precious day. Avery is loved beyond belief.
