Dan R. Waltz

Fill not your hearts with pain and sorrow, but remember me in every tomorrow. Remember the joy, the laughter, the smile, I've only gone to rest a little while. Although my leaving causes pain and grief, my going has eased my hurt and given me relief. So dry your eyes and remember me, not as I am now, but as I used to be. Because, I will remember you all and look on with a smile. Understand, in your hearts, I've only gone to rest a little while. As long as I have the love of each of you, I can live my life in the hearts of all of you.

Dan was a treasured friend in the profession of engineering. I remember in particular a wonderful, lengthy conversation with him regarding STEAM. He went on and on. He loved steam, felt it was a marvelous under-appreciated technology. He spoke at length with childlike fascination and deep knowledge about things that could be done with steam and its inherent jam-packed energy. I have thought of this conversation so many times over the years and nearly always when the subject turns to public policy and options. I also remember his gentle manner and zeal for life. Although my husband and I haven't seen him in years, we will always remember him fondly, and we wish his family well.

Dan was a good friend, a good man, and great to work with. I miss him.
