

Don was born in Milwaukee, WI on November 15, 1929. The eldest of four boys, Don, Jim, Ralph and Frank and one girl Jeanne. He grew up in Milwaukee, entered the USAF at age 17, where he advanced to STAFF SGT after extensive training in Airplane and Engine Mechanics and Airplane Electrical Mechanics. He served in the USAF for four years. At age 22 he started work for AC Spark Plug- a division of General Motors. When he retired on 12-01-1997 at the age of 67 he was Proudly recognized by Delco Electronics, a subsidiary of G.M. Hughes Electronics, for his 44.8 years of loyal and dedicated service. Don is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 33 years Jackie, his sons Mark, Paul (Yu) and John Wirkus, and his stepchildren Ron, Randy (Brooke) Cooley and Gina (Bob) Poole, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, his brothers Ralph and Frank Wirkus and his sister Jeanne (Richard) Hryniewicki and their families. He is also survived by his brother Jim's sons. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean, in 1977, and his brother, Jim, in 2000.
Don will be cherished and loved forever by all who were fortunate enough to know him. We would like to thank the Cardio and Pulmonary teams at Evergreen Hospital and Hospice for all the love and care that was given to him in his fight to survive Pulmonary Fibrosis.
