Doris Mildred (Anderson) McChesney

Doris Mildred McChesney passed away peacefully at her home on January 12, 2026 surrounded by close family members. Doris was born in November 1937 and was raised in Proctor, Vermont. She married Captain Burton M. McChesney in 1966 and has lived for the last 60 years in Bellevue, Washington. She was an avid animal lover and spent many years working and volunteering for the Seattle Humane Society in Bellevue. She is survived by her four stepchildren (Beverly, Burton, Frances, and Barbara McChesney and spouses), ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, many family members in Vermont and Massachusetts and many wonderful friends and neighbors.

Although Doris moved away from Vermont many years ago, Proctor was always home to her, cherishing her annual trips to visit family and classmates. Most visits were planned around the fourth of July so she could see her favorite artist Warren Kimble, being most happy when saying hello to him at the parade. Doris graduated from Proctor High School in 1955 and was the person who held the group together planning regular reunions. Doris’ home is full of Vermont treasures including the same furniture she grew up with and Warren Kimble art that adorns her walls and mantel.

Doris was kind, loving, generous, and thoughtful with an incredible eye for detail and organization. When guests visited her in Washington, she prepared detailed itineraries to give them the best experience and she created the most thoughtful and creative gifts for special occasions. Doris was a huge fan of Gilbert and Sullivan and country AND western music (especially those musicians named Hank. . .Snow, Williams, Thompson) and she loved to shop in “elderly” bookstores.

Doris loved our father Burton dearly and the life of adventure they lived. She was always grateful that he brought her four kids and loved us all unconditionally. We were equally grateful and will miss her every day.
