I met  Doug and Karen at the Saratoga Trunk restaurant in the late 70’s in Bellevue. They were soon good friends. Doug and I bonded over our passions for nice cars, music; and hockey. I also remember his hearty laugh. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Karen,Doug and I started in system ops at the same time, I believe at the same time as your transplant. I retired a few years ago and while talking with a few friends today they told me that Doug had passed on, I was very surprised and saddened. He was a hell of a cook, he made food for us in sysops many times. Best burgers I ever had. Karen I don't know why he left PSE or how he died but I can tell you having lost my first wife at the age of 30 and 2 infants to raise I DO understand what you are going through, I wish I could tell you, you will get over it but I never got over my first wife passing. I did meet and marry a wonderful woman and we have been married 31 years. Not a day passes where I don't shed a few tears for her, but you owe it to yourself to try and go on..... I am sorry this is so late in coming I wish I would have known at the time. I will pray for you and I hope all is getting better for you at least a little...... Doug and were married almost 35 years and met in 1976 at Young Life Camp. We loved each other very much and I miss him. Gone too soon.

As a brother 12 years older to the day, I helped raise Doug when our father died in 1964 at the age of 39.  I remember his smile and hearty laugh which indicated his zesty approach to life. 

 As others have said, he loved to kayak and his favorite spots were on the Salmon River in Oregon and the San Juan's in Washington.

He loved Mustangs, his favorite being a yellow Saleen.

I miss him greatly and can not believe that he is not still with us.

I have been kayaking for a long time and I never met anyone who loved kayaking more than Doug. He would just light up when telling of his kayaking adventures, he couldn't wait for the next time to get out on the water. 
Like Cindy mentioned, I also received a kayak key chain from him, in the exact same color and style as my own. 
Worked with Doug for years, he was very thoughtful and more than excited to share his knowledge and the things that made him happy. 
... That keychain will always be special to me.  

I worked with Doug for many years. The one thing we shared was our love of kayaking. He gave me a kayak key chain, which was pretty cool. He made sure it was the same color as my kayak. I always admired his thought for detail on and off the job.
My heart goes out to his family.

I always remember( almost 20yrs ago) when Doug was interviewing the same time I was in San Diego and he & Karen were house shopping and seriously thinking about moving they offered to rent me a room if I decided to take the job.  I will never forget that offer and the big heart Doug had.  
Also the excitement Doug would when he was bidding on ebay for a rare comic.  Those mornings when he would show me his bid and explain the rare history of that book, what  a kid at heart.
You are missed.


Doug, Husband, Brother, Uncle..  you will be missed by all.  I remember your laugh, and smile....

I met Doug when I started at PSE in March of 2007. He has always been a great mentor and most importantly a friend. The world lost a great man who went out of his way to get to know me, and trust me in a very stressful job. You will be missed friend.
