Edward John Hahn
July 23, 1924 – October 6, 2021
Ed was born in Weissport, PA, the son of Charles and Arlene Hahn. He grew up in Lehighton PA where he was an Eagle Scout and participated in high school football, basketball, and track. He played clarinet and saxophone in several bands.
Ed graduated with an engineering degree from Penn State University. His schooling was interrupted during World War II and he served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot for two years before finishing his education. He married his life-long love, Phyllis Rehrig, June 14, 1946. They remained devoted to each other for 74 years.
After finishing school at Penn State, Ed and Phyllis, along with their 6-month-old daughter, Linda, moved to Washington State where they spent the remainder of their lives and Ed had a 30-year career at the Boeing Company. He received a master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Washington while working at Boeing.
Ed enjoyed his free time at The Barn on Hood Canal, skiing, watching his daughters and granddaughters participate in sports, traveling around the country with Phyllis in their 5th-wheel trailer, playing Bridge, and playing in a Dixieland band.
Ed was predeceased by Phyllis on January 1, 2021 and eldest daughter, Linda Tate in 2002. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Cheryl & Erik Peterson of Woodinville, Barbara Hahn & Mike Snow of Bellingham, Phil Tate of Friday Harbor, his beloved granddaughters Karen (Colin) Preston, Woodinville, Lisa Peterson (Chris Maiwald), Chemnitz, Germany, Julie Tate, Livingston, Montana, and Rebecca Lilliquist, Seattle. Ed was proud and delighted by his great-grandsons, Luke & Jack Preston, and great-granddaughter, Charlotte Peterson.
The family thanks the caregivers that lovingly cared for Ed in the last year, Nildy and Juliet.
