Effie Mae Coward

Effie Mae Manuel Coward, an adorable wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend; opened her book of life and graced the world with her glowing presence on May 17, 1936; to her loving parents, the late Willie Lewis and Joseph Manuel. Because she was a large baby at birth, she was affectionately called "Big Girl" by her love ones.

Effie's religious experience began at D'Arbonne Church of God in Christ at an early age. She also attended Point Pleasant C.M.E. Church. After moving to Seattle, Washington and marrying, Lucious Coward, Jr.; she attended Ebenezer A.M.E. Zion Church with her husband. Because she loved reading and studying her bible, she became a bible scholar.

Effie's next chapter include her Education. She attended school at St. John, Mayfield, and Hillcrest. After graduating, she went on to Grambling College.

Effie's life's story became even more fulfilling when she united in Holy Matrimony to Lucious Coward, Jr. To this union four children were born.

Effie loved working with her hands. She did embroidery, crocheting, made hats, tailored clothes, and cooked on a professional level. Once her husband became ill, she retired and became a caregiver.

Effie was welcomed home to receive her heavenly reward. Her heavenly greeters include parents: Willie and Joseph: Husband: Lucious; Daughter-in-law: Denise Coward; Three Sisters: Negatha West, Edna Rushing, Gussie Burns; Seven Brothers: Dan Shelton, Mack Shelton (Georgia Shelton), Modest Manuel, Joe L. Manuel, Rev. Alton Manuel, Joe Manuel, Jr., and Henry Manuel.

Though her final chapter on this earth has ended, the life and legacy of a kind, gentle, beautiful woman will continue through the lives of those remaining to honor her memory. They include Two Daughters: Debra Winzer (Willie T), Cynthia Santana;

Two Sons: Lucious Coward, III, Sherman Coward, Sr., One Brother: Weldon Manuel (Mattie); Six Grandchildren: April Perry (Larry), Shalindra Coward, Aneshia Coward, Sherman Coward, Jr. (Sparkle), Javon Coward, Randy Winzer; Eight Great Grand Children: Mya Manuel, Brushawn Perry, Arnaz Coward, Xerxes Coward, Zy Riyah Winzer, Jessyana Boston; One Great, Great Grand: Tristen Sneed; Two sister-in-laws: Mary Helen Manuel, Gladys Manuel; A loving multitude of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends are left to reminisce on the memories of Mumms.

A visitation for Effie will be held Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Sunset Hills Funeral Home, 1215 145th Place SE, Bellevue, WA 98007.
